Both of our acute hospitals have a chapel and a multifaith space that you can access 24 hours a day for quiet reflection, meditation and prayer. Our chaplains are also available to you for spiritual support, no matter what your faith or belief. You do not need to be religious or attend church to receive help from our chaplains or to use the hospital chapels.

We offer a lease car scheme to all permanent employees, regardless of whether or not your role requires you to use a car for business purposes. Vehicles can be leased through our salary sacrifice scheme which can lower the amount of tax, National Insurance and pension contributions you pay.

Our occupational health team is always on hand to support you with your health and wellbeing. They can help fast-track you for physiotherapy, counselling and some consultant specialities.

They may also be able to arrange health checks, vaccinations, blood tests, health screenings and access to discounted complimentary therapies.

Validium is a confidential support and counselling service. It’s free and accessible 24 hours a day. They can give you advice and guidance on legal issues, money worries, bereavement, trauma, stress and anxiety.

We hold monthly Schwartz Rounds at our acute hospitals for clinical and non-clinical staff to reflect on your experiences and discuss topics such as diversity, mental health and the personal impact of working in healthcare.

We work with gyms around the county to offer great discounts to our staff.

Yoga classes are offered on an occasional basis at various locations by local teachers.

If you fancy a brisk 30 minute walk or run during your lunch break, our acute hospitals have mapped out a circuit called the Lunch Time Mile.

We regularly invite local complimentary therapists to our locations to give you 30 minute treatments at a reduced price. They offer things like Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, Indian head massage and Thai foot massage.

Trust Headquarters, our acute hospitals and some of our community hospitals have on site cafés, restaurants and convenience shops. All of these offer a range of healthy meals and a choice of vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, lactose free, halal and kosher options. Staff receive a 20% discount at the Restaurant and Café at West Cumberland Hospital and 15% off at Time Out Restaurant at Cumberland Infirmary.

Local fruit and veg stall holders set up shop in our acute hospitals on a weekly basis. Produce is sourced locally as much as possible. We’ll be trialling pop up stalls at our community hospitals soon.

There are library facilities at both of our acute hospitals and there is a learning space at Trust Headquarters. Both libraries have a good selection of health and wellbeing books as well as fiction and other topics.

We regularly hold book swap events at our locations around the county. We also have a permanent book swap stand at Trust Headquarters.

We have 4 staff networks:

  • Cultural Diversity
  • LGBT
  • Accessibility/Disability
  • Armed Forces

Each week we celebrate staff members and teams who have been nominated by a member of public or a colleague for going the extra mile. Everyone who receives a Glimpse of Brilliance gets a certificate and is celebrated in our weekly email bulletin and on our social media channels.

Our We Celebrate awards are held annually. They celebrate the individuals and teams whose hard work has had a demonstrable impact on patient care, colleagues or the Trust.

As an NHS staff member you’ll be entitled to discounts and money saving deals from a huge range national companies, from utilities to travel providers. Find out more about NHS discounts.

You’ll also benefit from discounts with local providers such as hair salons and theatres. Details of these discounts are available on our staff website.
