Neurodevelopment and Community Paediatrics

The health of children in foster care and adoption

I qualified in medicine from the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1991 and after a year of house officer jobs I have spent my time working in paediatrics, with the exception of a 6 month A&E job and a 6 month obstetrics and gynaecology job.

My original plan had been to specialise in neonatology, but a rotation to a community paediatric post in Peterborough made me realise that I was more suited to working with children with neurodisabilities. I was fortunate to be able to spend a good part of the latter part of my training in this field in Leicester.

I moved to the Furness area in Cumbria in 2012 to take up a Consultant Community Paediatric post, after completing specialist training in Leicester and Peterborough.

In 2011 I took on the role of Named Doctor for Children Looked After and in 2012 transferred from Furness to a vacancy in east Cumbria.

I enjoy interacting with children and young people and working with colleagues in health services, social care and education services.

Collaboration. Much more can be achieved by good collaborative working and communication.
