I trained in Yorkshire and have been a consultant in north Cumbria since 2005. My research in Sheffield was in Peritoneal Dialysis and I'm a strong advocate for this therapy.
North Cumbria has a superb record with peritoneal dialysis rates. The kidney department has expanded a lot in the last 15 years and now we're a dynamic team offering high quality care.
The team work and the long term care for our patients.
I have many patients who I've looked after for nearly 15 years and this chronic supportive care over the years is very rewarding.
The patient focussed care in north Cumbria was been recognised nationally as excellent in 3 national Patient Report Experience Measure (PREM) surveys 2017 to 2019.
It's also wonderful when one of my patients has a kidney transplant and their life is transformed.
How on earth can you chose between the values of kindness, respect, ambition and collaboration? If pressed I would say respect. Working with the patients, so they decide on the best treatment for them and their lives, is at the heart on my work.
