Call me Mr Hinson
Cumberland Infirmary
Surgical endoscopy
- bowel cancer screening
- therapeutic colonoscopy
- removal of large polyps
- colonic stenting
I trained in general and colorectal surgery and was a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Cumberland Infirmary until the end of 2017, when I retired from my full time job in surgery.
I now work part time as a Specialist Colorectal Endoscopist. I'm also Lead Colonoscopist for Cumbria and Morecambe Bay Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.
I enjoy most aspects of my job, particularly the privilege of interacting with patients of many different ages and backgrounds.
I work with a great team of nurses and other colleagues in bowel cancer screening and endoscopy, who are crucial to what I'm able to achieve with my own efforts.
By removing polyps during colonoscopy, I know that I will often be preventing these polyps from turning into cancer. That gives me great satisfaction.
Kindness because it covers most other important values. For example, we can only be kind to people if we respect them, as well as striving to improve our knowledge, skills and collaboration for the benefit of others.
