I qualified from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1986. After doing Junior and Senior House Officer jobs (obstetrics and gynaecology, general surgery and neonatal) in the North East, I came to Carlisle as a Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1990.

After obtaining my Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 1992, I worked as a Registrar in Hexham for 9 months. I then accepted the offer of a permanent job in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Carlisle, first as a staff grade then as an Associate Specialist.

I obtained my Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Scanning in 2003 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) in 2004.

I became Specialty and Associate Specialist Doctors (SAS) Tutor for the Trust in 2013.

Last year I became Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists national lead for SAS and locally employed doctors (LED) in obstetrics and gynaecology and have a seat on Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Council.

I'm also a Vice Chair of the SAS Committee for the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.
