By road

From Workington:
  • take the A595 Loop Road towards Whitehaven
  • follow the road for 9 miles
  • you’ll come to a roundabout for Snekyeat Road Industrial Estate and the hospital
  • take the 2nd exit and follow the signs for West Cumberland Hospital
  • the hospital is on the right
     
From Carlisle A595:
  • from the city centre follow signs for The West A595
  • stay on the A595 for 25 miles
  • at Low Road roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A66
  • follow the road for 3 miles until the Bridgefoot roundabout
  • take the 1st exit marked Whitehaven A595
  • follow the road for 9 miles avoiding signs for the town centre
  • you’ll come to a roundabout for Snekyeat Road Industrial Estate and the hospital
  • take the 2nd exit and follow the signs for West Cumberland Hospital
  • the hospital is on the right
     
From Penrith and the M6:
  • exit at junction 40 and take the A66 towards Workington and Keswick
  • stay on this road for 34 miles until the Bridgefoot roundabout
  • take the 1st exit marked Whitehaven A595
  • follow the road for 9 miles avoiding signs for the town centre
  • you’ll come to a roundabout for Snekyeat Road Industrial Estate and the hospital
  • take the 2nd exit and follow the signs for West Cumberland Hospital
  • the hospital is on the right
     

By bus

Stagecoach run buses from Whitehaven town centre and the surrounding area to West Cumberland Hospital. Use the Stagecoach website to plan your journey.
 

By train

Northern Rail run trains from Workington and St Bees to Whitehaven. Use the Northern Rail website to plan your journey. From there you can catch a bus from Tangier Street which is a 3 minute walk away.

You can also take a taxi but advance booking is essential. Visit traintaxi.co.uk to find a local cab service. Walking from the train station to West Cumberland Infirmary takes 50 minutes.
 

By Patient Transport Service

This service helps eligible patients get to and from hospital appointments. It’s provided by the North West Ambulance Service. To find out if you’re eligible, contact the local booking centre on 01228 403031.

They’ll ask you some simple questions about your medical condition and mobility. Make sure you have your NHS number ready before your call. You can get this from your GP or clinic.
