A new recruitment video has been launched in a bid to attract more people to work in the NHS in Cumbria.
The video highlights the vast opportunities available at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) and North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS). A particular focus is on how the organisations are embracing working closer together than ever before with each other and partners across health and care services. NCIC was formed earlier this month when North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust and Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust merged to become one organisation. The emphasis, as the new name of the Trust suggests, is on the benefits integration of services can bring for both patients and staff which also means additional career opportunities and development for staff.
The new video features a variety of staff from NCIC and NWAS from those based in the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven right through to staff working across Cumbria in the community from Brampton to Barrow. The video builds on the Trust’s recruitment campaign ‘is this you?’ which describes the kind of people the Trust is looking for such as innovators, team players and forward thinkers to show that there is something for everyone.
In the video staff talk about why Cumbria is a great place to live and work. Vanessa Connor, Integrated Care Community development manager is featured:
“There are unique opportunities to co-produce patient pathways in Cumbria particularly through our Integrated Care Communities (ICCs) where we work alongside other partners including, physical health, mental health, primary care, transport services, social care and third sector to name a few.
“Cumbria is an amazing place to live, work and play. In the morning you could be working in a seaside town by the afternoon you could be up a Lake District fell. It’s a great place to bring up a family and I wouldn’t live anywhere other than Cumbria.”
Amanda Dunkley, head of workforce solutions at NCIC, said:
“Cumbria is a fantastic place to live and work, there are so many opportunities available from those entry level positions right up to the more senior levels. We are always looking for new talent to join us.
“Acknowledging that there are shortages of clinical staff across the NHS, we have had to think outside of the box which is paying off. We have been working really hard to attract people to come and work with us and we have been attending as many recruitment events up and down the country as possible in order to spread the word about what we are doing differently at NCIC. We have also headed further afield having just returned from Dublin and Italy where we were speaking to nurses, doctors and allied health professionals about coming to live and work in Cumbria.

Alessio Santangeli, deputy ward manager at Cumberland Infirmary moved from Italy to join the Trust and is also featured in the video. He said:
“I’m originally from Italy, and I have felt supported since joining. My experience here has been so rewarding, all of my colleagues have supported me and I’ve had the chance to apply for a promotion which I achieved.”
Caroline Hastings, operations manager for service delivery at NWAS said:
“We have been working in close partnership with our colleagues from North Cumbria Integrated Care Foundation Trust for a number of years which has resulted in us being able to offer a variety of roles and progression opportunities for qualified paramedics.
“This has enabled us to work collaboratively at recruitment fairs and other events to take a system wide approach in promoting Cumbria as a great place to live and work.
We look forward to developing this close working further for the benefit of both our patients and our workforce.”
