We can provide treatment and support if you have any of these conditions:

  • multiple sclerosis
  • epilepsy
  • headache
  • migraine
  • parkinson's disease
  • other less common neurological conditions

If you're referred to Neurology, we'll invite you in for an assessment. You might have to do a few different tests during your appointment. We’ll go through your options in detail and decide on the best treatment.

The Neuroscience service works in close collaboration with the renowned neuroscience departments in The Walton Centre in Liverpool, Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle and Neurology department in Preston.

Our service is run by a highly qualified and experienced multidisciplinary team of clinicians, supported by specialist nurses who ensure continuity of care and support for our most vulnerable patients. Through working closely with our patients' families or carers and with rehabilitation services in the local community, we aim to support our patients in staying at home wherever possible. The Service provides a range of interventions and treatments and we currently have four main pathways which are listed below:

  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Epilepsy
  • Headache
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Other less common neurological conditions

We provide care as close to home as possible. We also currently hold general neurology clinics in Penrith Hospital, Carlisle, Whitehaven, Furness and Ulverston. We currently have a specialised Headache clinic in Penrith and a cross county MS service. We provide inpatients consultations for the North Cumbria University Hospitals in Carlisle, Whitehaven and Furness General Hospital.

Our department are also involved in clinical research, clinical trials, as well as basic research and translational research.
