The TB nurse can provide treatment and support if you have any of these conditions:
- extrapulmonary TB
- latent TB
- pulmonary TB
Many children (up to half) will not have any symptoms. Those that do are likely to have:
- a low grade fever (38°C) that continues over weeks rather than days
- a cough that persists for 3 weeks or more
- a wet or chesty cough that lasts more than 3 weeks
- coughing up blood
- unexplained weight loss
- night sweats
- tiredness and fatigue
- new swellings that do not go away after a few weeks
If you or your child is suspected of having TB, our nurse will carry out a number of tests to diagnose whether or not you have it and if you’re contagious. Your family members and friends may also be screened to find out if anyone else is infected.
If you’ve been diagnosed with TB, our specialist nurse will be assigned to you to support you through your treatment.
Our nurse will work with you (usually over a period of 6 months) to make sure you’re responding to treatment, give you advice and reassure you about any symptoms or side effects you may be experiencing.
